A Mesoamerican kingdom, called Mayana, is ruled by a queen until an evil witch, Ledina, casts a spell putting her into eternal sleep. Until the queen awakes, the throne is passed to her young son, Prince Tio. In the present day, Nobita and his friends are rehearsing for a school play based on Snow White with Doraemon’s gadgets.
Gian selfishly takes the gadgets to perform in an imagined stadium, prompting Doraemon, Nobita, and Shizuka to try to return them through a time portal. Gian’s violent reaction breaks the portal, unknowingly connecting it to a tree in the forests of Mayana.
Popol, Tio’s pet jerboa-like beast, raids Nobita’s room and scatters his test papers throughout the forest, requiring Nobita and Doraemon to traverse the portal to retrieve them. Along the way, Nobita is pursued by Tio until they both end up in a mud puddle; to his surprise, he discovers that they are identical twins. The three attempt to escape through the portal, but Nobita lags and gets captured by the kingdom guards, who mistake him for Tio.
Culture shock and unexpected expectations for a prince to conduct war are among Nobita’s first challenges as Tio. Nobita, on the other hand, astounds the crowds and Tio’s allies with his kind demeanor, despite having to deal with their prince’s normal pride and roughness.
