The film begins with Nobita waking up after having a dream in which he impersonates the Stone Monkey and Doraemon, a Western dynasty traveller. He awakens in the midst of his buddies rehearsing a school play.
Finally, he swears to track down the real Sun Wukong in order to play his part. At home, unable to locate Doraemon, who is playing a virtual computer game, Nobita journeys to 645 AD, where he discovers Sun Wukong, who resembles his face, and subsequently assists a white starving child.
Hours later, he gathers his buddies along with Doraemon, but they are stopped by an uprising cavalry. Doraemon later disguises Nobita as Stone Monkey in the game after they spot Tang Seng. A monster secretly cradles out of the game during some discussions.
Nobita and his companions come home after losing their wager. They find the environment to be quite dark. Everyone, including their teacher, grows horns and begins to act evilly in the manner of monsters. Doraemon realises that the monsters from the game have emerged and altered the path of history. The companions decide to return to mend things in order to stop the growth and domination of monsters. They dress up as their characters and journey back in time.
