An elderly dog visits a time machine, which he intends to use to travel to the future and meet “someone” who hands him a kendama. However, the machine encounters “temporal turbulence” and goes haywire, regressing the dog to his baby stage, which is finally discovered by a researcher cat.
In the present day, Nobita discovers a drowning stray dog in a river while playing by the river with Gian and Suneo. Feeling terrible for the dog, he decides to take it home by putting it in a “kennel on the wall,” names it Ichi (a homophone of the sound of a barking dog in Japanese), and surreptitiously feeds and plays with Ichi with his kendama to keep it hidden. Soon later, he adopts a stray cat named Zubu (meaning wet in Japanese, because it was found in a rainstorm).
Nobita’s mother eventually becomes suspicious and enters Nobita’s room. To avoid being apprehended alongside Ichi and Zubu, he and Doraemon travel through The Anywhere Door to the Mountains, where they see other stray dogs and cats threatened by deforestation. With so many pets, Nobita and his companions plan to send them back in time to 300 million years ago, where no other living beings exist.
